The Israeli occupation’s aggression continues against the Gaza Strip for the 189th consecutive day, and on the third day of Eid al-Fitr.

In the early morning hours of today, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed at least 25 people in one airstrike that targeted a Palestinian family’s home in Al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza.

No consensus on Palestinian membership

Yesterday, members of the UN Security Council failed to reach a consensus Thursday on a bid by Palestinians for full UN membership, meaning the longshot effort is now likely headed for a more formal council vote - per Agence France-Presse.

Any request to become a UN member state must first pass through the Security Council -- where Israel's ally the United States wields a veto -- and then be endorsed by the General Assembly.

In light of Israel's offensive in Gaza, Palestinians revived a 2011 UN membership application last week, prompting the Security Council to launch a formal review process. This included the ad hoc committee that failed to reach consensus Thursday and was composed of the council's member states.

During its closed-door meeting "there was no consensus," said Maltese Ambassador Vanessa Frazier, who holds the council's rotating presidency for April.

However, two-thirds of the members were in favor of full membership, she said, without specifying which countries.

France seeks security council resolution

On the other hand, a French draft resolution in the Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, reiterating its rejection of any “Israeli” ground offensive in the southern border city of Rafah.

The resolution strongly condemned any forced displacement of Gaza residents, and called for implementation of measures to increase the flow of aid into the Strip.

Gaza death toll

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported earlier today that “Israeli” forces committed eight massacres against families in the Gaza Strip, leaving 89 martyrs and 120 injured during the past 24 hours.

The Ministry warned that there are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the roads, and that the IOF prevents ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching them.

It announced that the total death toll of the “Israeli” aggression had risen to 33,634 martyrs and 76,214 injuries since Oct. 7, 2023.
