Authorities arrested an individual in Southern California related to the accidental overdose death of actor Matthew Perry, NBC News reported on Thursday.

Perry, 54, was discovered at his Pacific Palisades home on Oct. 28, 2023, with his body face down in the heated end of his swimming pool.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Perry’s death resulted from the acute effects of ketamine, an anesthetic known for its hallucinogenic effects.

The investigation, which began in May, involved collaboration with federal agencies to trace the source of the ketamine found in Perry’s system.

Ketamine has been used recreationally for decades but has recently emerged as a treatment for depression in specialized clinics.

Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to address his depression and anxiety, with his last session occurring more than a week before his death.

The medical examiner noted that the ketamine levels in Perry’s body were significantly high, consistent with amounts used for general anesthesia, and could not have been from the recent therapy session due to the drug's short half-life.

The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine how Perry obtained the excessive amount of ketamine that led to his tragic death.
