Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, speaking to the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States, said that “Operation Aqsa Typhoon” by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023 was “carried out unilaterally and provided “Israel” with pretexts and justifications to attack Gaza, causing more killing, destruction, and displacement.”

Abbas added that, before October 7, the Israeli Occupation was working to further separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank and Jerusalem to prevent the establishment of the Palestinian state and weaken the Palestinian authority.

Hamas’ rejection of ending the division between Gaza and the West Bank and their rejection of returning to the umbrella of Palestinian leadership has served the “Israeli” plan – Abbas said.

“Our top priority is an immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression,” Abbas declared, in addition to “preventing the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank outside their homeland.”

Abbas further called for the immediate implementation of the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in addition to obtaining a full membership in the United Nations.
