250,000 Gazans affected by “Israeli” evacuation orders: UNRWA report

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, stated that approximately 250,000 residents of Gaza have been impacted by recent “Israeli” evacuation orders, according to Anadolu Agency reports on Tuesday.

A senior communications officer from UNRWA, participating in a virtual UN briefing from Central Gaza, emphasized the growing scale of displacement.

"UNRWA estimates that around 250,000 people have been impacted by these orders. As usual, we expect these numbers to grow," the officer stated.

The “Israeli” army issued the evacuation orders on Monday, directing residents of eastern Khan Yunis to leave immediately, citing the area's designation as a "dangerous combat zone."

The army instructed evacuees to relocate to humanitarian zones in the western part of the city, specifically in the Al-Mawasi area.

Louise Wateridge, speaking on behalf of UNRWA, condemned the evacuation orders as "another devastating blow to the humanitarian response" in Gaza.

She highlighted the challenges affecting families in making crucial decisions amidst the upheaval, stating that determining safe destinations has become "impossible."

"Our understanding so far is people are going towards the west, so that is towards the coast," she remarked.
